What is primary food and why do I focus so hard on that?
When it comes to our health and what our ideas are about what it means to be healthy, we focus an awful lot of attention on food. And for good reason! Food is important. We get nutrients necessary for cell repair, immune defense, and bodily fuel. We connect with loved ones over food. We have memories tied to food. Food is crucial. Food can be fun.
But it’s not the whole picture when we’re talking about truly integrative health.
My approach to coaching LOVES food. I spend plenty of time talking about food with my clients, from meal-planning to experimenting with new recipes. But it’s not all we talk about. In fact, it’s only a part of what we do in our program.
Our lives include so much beyond food: careers, relationships, our social lives, our financial health, spirituality and even more.
You can eat as many smoothie bowls as you want, but if you hate your job or your relationship is toxic, you’re not thriving.
That’s Integrative Health. That’s holistic health. It’s seeing each person as a unique individual and considering that we’re made up of so much more than our dietary theories and calories consumed.
That’s Primary Food. It’s those things that fuel and feed us beyond what we chew and swallow. And it’s how I focus my programs with each of my clients - with the clear goal of bringing all of these areas of life into balance.
